When we moved to South Dakota we I did not care to go out and do many things. A couple months after we found out my husband’s orders, I decided I really liked the area we were, but I felt like I hadn’t seen or experienced enough during our 6 years there. My husband helped me come up with a bucket list for our time left there before we PSC’ed. I’m happy to say we completed each one.
We had 6 things on our bucket list:
– Hike Black Elk Peak (previously named Harney Peak).
-Use our Reptile Gardens gift certificate that Tori got for Christmas (and actually use the pass more than once. We’ve been here before but never used our passes more than once).
-Hike through the Badlands.
-Take the family to the movie theater, there are no AMC movie theaters here in Alaska and Reid received an AMC gift card for Christmas.
-Complete the Crazy Horse Volksmarch again.
Warning picture overload!
That’s a big snake!
Two peas in a pod in the Sky Dome at Reptile Gardens.
Looking down below at the Sky Dome.
Reptile Gardens also has birds and prairie dogs. Here our kids are looking at a bald eagle.
Tank the giant tortoise.
Victoria petting a giant tortoise.
Before our hike we went to a lookout area.
It is amazing how the earth works.
Stopping for a break after the first steep hill of the hike.
Reid carries his own pack. I’m so proud he is willing to help carry our water.
Jason hiked up this large hill with Tori in the hiking pack.
Natural wonder.
Jase’s temperament really showed during this hike. He wanted to play in the sand for a bit and rest.
Jase also wanted to pick flowers.
Had to document a family photo.
I love them.

We made it to the top!
We packed a lunch and ate at the top of Crazy Horse.
During our lunch break we saw a mountain goat.
It didn’t care much for the crowd of people.
A nice reminder on the way down.
